Curriculum
Our approach blends the best of Montessori and Waldorf philosophies — fostering independence, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning through hands-on exploration in a warm, home-like environment.
Infant Program
We meet your baby where they are — responding to cues, building trust, and creating a secure foundation through sensory play, gentle routines, and unhurried connection.
Toddler Program
Toddlers learn by doing. We give them the space, materials, and freedom to explore, make choices, and develop confidence — all within a safe, structured environment.
Preschool Program
Through storytelling, nature, art, and imaginative play, we nurture curious minds and big emotions — setting children up not just for kindergarten, but for life.

Curriculum FAQs
What is Montessori-based learning?
Montessori education centers on the belief that children learn best when they're free to follow their curiosity. Rather than directing what to learn and when, we provide purposeful materials and an prepared environment that invites independence, concentration, and self-discovery. Learn more about Montessori →
What does a typical day look like?
Each day follows a gentle, predictable rhythm — morning circle, free exploration with purposeful materials, outdoor time, creative activity, meals, and rest. Structure without rigidity.
What age groups do you serve?
We welcome infants (12 weeks and up), toddlers, and preschool-aged children up to 6 years old. Our intentionally small group size means every child receives care tailored to their individual developmental stage.
We treat feelings as something to understand, not manage. Children learn to name emotions, work through conflict, and build resilience through consistent relationships with caregivers they trust — a core principle in both Montessori and Waldorf philosophies.
How do you support emotional development?
How does Willow Nest benefit the Novato community?
Beyond individual families, we believe quality early childhood education strengthens the whole community. By providing a nurturing, enriching environment rooted in proven educational philosophies, we give Marin County children a strong foundation — socially, emotionally, and intellectually — from their very first years.
What makes your curriculum different from a traditional daycare?
We don't follow a sit-and-listen model. Drawing from Montessori and Waldorf traditions, our days are built around child-led exploration, creative play, and natural rhythms — in a real home environment, not a classroom.
What is Waldorf-based learning?
Waldorf education nurtures the whole child — head, heart, and hands. Through storytelling, art, music, and imaginative play, it honors each child's developmental stage and cultivates creativity alongside cognitive growth. Learn more about Waldorf →
We use Brightwheel for real-time updates — daily reports, photos, and direct messaging — so you're always connected to your child's day without interrupting it.
